The oldest modern sharks (selachians) are known from the Early Jurassic, about 200 Ma. Shark-like chondrichthyans such as Cladoselache and Doliodus first appeared in the Devonian Period (419–359 Ma), though some fossilized chondrichthyan-like scales are as old as the Late Ordovician (458–444 Ma). Some sources extend the term "shark" as an informal category including extinct members of Chondrichthyes (cartilaginous fish) with a shark-like morphology, such as hybodonts. Modern sharks are classified within the clade Selachimorpha (or Selachii) and are the sister group to the Batoidea ( rays and kin). Sharks are a group of elasmobranch fish characterized by a cartilaginous skeleton, five to seven gill slits on the sides of the head, and pectoral fins that are not fused to the head. (Sorry for the long text and maybe some grammar mistakes as English is not my native language.Clockwise from top left: spiny dogfish, Australian angelshark, whale shark, great white shark, horn shark, frilled shark, scalloped hammerhead and Japanese sawshark representing the orders Squaliformes, Squatiniformes, Orectolobiformes, Lamniformes, Heterodontiformes, Hexanchiformes, Carcharhiniformes and Pristiophoriformes respectively. Thx in advance if someone can help me clarify all or some of this. (the 4 squares indicating what type it is)īut is there also a way to see this when they are at your home storage allready because I can't see those squares anymore once added to my collection and sometimes I'm setting up everything for a certain fish only to figure out AFTER cutting my line to the desired length that it's a setup for carp and I can't use a regular hook/live bait making me have to do it all over until I find a suitable setup. (Is #1/0 bigger or smaller than #1?)Īlso when you buy a Rod or reel it shows you what type of Rod or reel it is in the store. I know I can just copy paste some YouTubers setup but I'd rather know why I'm taking a #4/0 hook instead of a #3/0 hook. The only thing I can't figure out is how do you determine what size hooks are best suited for which fish. (because I love a bit of a challenge instead of catching a 2 Pound fish with a 15pound rated setup.) I watched a couple tutorials which helped me out a ton learning how to setup your rods and reels for max drag etc. I've been playing fishing planet for a bit now and been loving it. Hi everyone I had a question about hooksizes.
